Moyes inspired by ‘serial winner’ Mourinho’s reaction to winning Conference League last season

West Ham United manager David Moyes has revealed that Jose Mourinho’s reaction to winning the Europa Conference League last season has inspired him to achieve the same feat.
Mourinho won the first-ever Conference League with Roma last year in his debut season with the club, beating Feyenoord in the final, with the 60-year-old describing the victory as an “historic achievement.”
West Ham will face Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the semi-finals of the same competition, with the first leg taking place this Thursday.
Moyes is eager to repeat the Portuguese manager by winning the Conference League this season, an achievement that he believes could be the peak of his career.
He said: “To get to a European final, it could be my best one.
“In the past I’ve got to a Champions League quarter-final with Manchester United, lost on penalties in the quarter-final of the Europa League with Everton and last year we reached a semi-final (of the Europa League) here at West Ham.
“I want to try and take it a couple of steps further, and I would refer back to the serial winner Jose Mourinho – who found winning this trophy so special for him and his football club.”
The east London side are yet to lose in the competition this season, having won 11 of their 12 games, being held to a 1-1 draw with Gent on April 13.
AZ Alkmaar, who are fourth in the Eredivisie, eliminated Anderlecht and Lazio on their path to the semi-final.

Nottingham Forest have joined West Ham United, Fulham and a few other clubs in the chase for São Paulo’s Pablo Maia.
On Wednesday, journalist André Hernan explained the Hammers and Marco Silva’s side looked at the 21-year-old in January. He had also stated the player could be moving to Europe in the summer, where he’s highly rated in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace, Leicester City and West Ham United are keeping close tabs on Valencia’s Yunus Musah and Giorgi Mamardashvili.
That’s according to ElDesmarque, who state several English clubs are regularly in attendance to watch their players.

Musah’s contract lasts until 2026 and includes a €100m clause. Mamardashvili, on the other hand, has a deal expiring in 2027, with a €100m clause.
If any one or all the three Premier League sides want to sign Musah or the stopper, they will have to ‘sit down’ with Valencia to negotiate a deal.
